Secretary Rubio is also preparing to meet with Greenlandic and Danish officials this week.
Members of Congress have put together a delegation that will travel to Denmark to meet with top-level government officials this week, as Secretary of State Marco Rubio is preparing to meet with foreign ministers from Denmark and Greenland. The delegation will include Senators Chris Coons of Delaware, Lisa Murkowski of Alaska, Thom Tillis of North Carolina, Dick Durbin of Illinois, and Jeanne Shaheen of New Hampshire, along with Representatives Greg Meeks of New York, Madeline Dean of Pennsylvania, and Sara Jacobs of California.
Secretary Rubio recently told members of Congress that President Trump would like to buy Greenland, which is currently a territory under Danish control.
Secretary Rubio said, “If we owned Greenland, we could put whatever we want there. If Greenland were U.S. territory, monitoring our adversaries would be far easier — especially in the GIUK Gap. These routes are how global commerce moves.”
White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt said, “More control over the Arctic region and ensuring that China and Russia, and our adversaries cannot continue their aggression in this very important and strategic region. And there would be many other benefits as well, that, again, the president and his national security team are currently talking about.”
As the Lord Leads, Pray with Us…
- For wisdom for Secretary Rubio as he prepares to meet with Danish and Greenlandic officials.
- For President Trump to receive God’s wisdom as he works to improve national security.
- For the members of Congress to be discerning in their discussions with the leaders from Denmark and Greenland.
